The retina, which is located at the back of the eye, is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be viewed directly. Examining these blood vessels can not only help diagnose certain eye conditions, but may also reveal the early signs of other serious conditions, such as diabetes, stroke, hypertension and heart disease. Receiving an optomap image is quick and painless. Nothing comes into direct contact with the eye at any time, which makes the process suitable for patients of all ages and comfort levels. To undergo a retinal scan, you simply look into a device one eye at a time and images of your retina will be captured. The image capture process takes less than a second and results are available immediately for review by the doctor.
