Comprehensive
Eye Exam

The comprehensive eye exam involves a refraction for a prescription pair of glasses as well as an ocular health check of the eye. Both are important components of the exam. The ocular health check allows the doctor to examine your eyes for glaucoma, corneal, and retinal diseases as well as check for cataracts and screen for systemic conditions that can affect the eyes such as diabetes.

Contact Lens Exam

The contact lens exam comprises of the comprehensive exam and a contact lens fitting. Your refraction for glasses helps determine what type of contacts would be a good fit for you. The type of contacts available are toric lenses to help correct astigmatism, multifocal lenses to help correct presbyopia (the equivalent of the bifocal section in a pair of glasses), and spherical lenses ( which corrects for nearsightedness or farsightedness). They can either be soft contacts or Rigid Gas Permeable (aka hard contacts). A discussion with the doctor during your examination will help determine which lens modality will best fit your lifestyle needs. (Note: Due to the nature of contact lenses being a medical device, an in-office training session is required for all first-time users prior to any contact lens trial release.)

Office Visits

An office visit will allow the doctor to assess, diagnose and treat any eye conditions that is affecting your vision (such as flashes or floaters) or that is causing your eyes to be red, painful, or irritated.

Optomap
Retinal Scan

This highly recommended scan of your retina allows the doctor to photo document your retinal health. From this scan, the doctor can detect retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma issues, retinal holes, or detachments that could potentially put your vision and your ocular health at risk. You can opt for this scan at the time of your visit.

LASIKs Consultations

If you are interested in refractive surgery such as LASIKS, the doctor will be happy to answer any questions you may have and do the initial LASIKs consultation. If you wish to proceed with the remainder of the consultation, which is continued at the surgery center, the doctor will refer you to the LASIKs surgeon’s office. Here additional testing and a meeting with the surgical staff to answers additional questions will be done in order to determine your candidacy for refractive surgery.

Cataract Consultations

During your examination, the doctor will screen for any signs of cataracts. Cataracts are an opacification of the natural lens in your eyes. For the majority of individuals, the development of cataracts is an age-related change, which means all of us at one point will develop cataracts. The extent to which the cataract starts to affect your vision and daily living activities will be determined during your exam and if needed a referral to the cataract surgeon can be made on your behalf.
